Web and Social Media

As a high school journalist, I aim to use our website and social media effectively to provide coverage of different events and issues. To plan and executive timely coverage, my staff and I first assess the nature of the story at hand. Once we have a comprehensive understanding of the story, we would then determine the most suitable presentation format. For instance, if the story revolves around a breaking news event or an on-campus rally, our newspaper might opt for real-time coverage via social media platforms like Instagram. They would provide live updates, share photos or short videos and engage with their audience through comments and replies.

Alternatively, if the story lends itself to visual storytelling, such as a profile piece on a student artist or coverage of a school event, I lead our team to create a photo gallery or video. In cases where the story requires in-depth analysis or commentary, we might produce an article supported by research, quotes from sources and analysis or opinions. I always seek ways to use multimedia tools on web and social media to enhance the storytelling experience. This involves incorporating audio clips of interviews, creating interactive infographics or timelines or producing podcasts for a more immersive experience.

On the websites I manage, I design stories to be presented in ways that provide variety in the way they are read, with a mix of photos and pull quotes in the text. This allows for a more immersive reading experience. Here is an example of a pull quote in one of my articles.

I work with our Social Media Directors of Simply Soft Skills to manage our Instagram, Twitter/X, Pinterest, etc. We promote our articles and other resources published on our website.
